As Theatre Management Consultant to IER Associates, Janis
Barlow provided guidance for a new arts and cultural centre for the Town of
Richmond Hill in 1997.
Janis Barlow reviewed the market and needs assessment
provided by IER, as well as the proposed business plan. Based on the proposed
uses, the inventory of facilities, the competitive environment, the growing
market in the region, and the operating conditions required by the Town, she
recommended a 600-seat theatre with a fly tower.
The design group
attached to the project, Theatre Projects Consultants, were committed to the
architectural aesthetics of a 400-seat theatre. The compromise was a 500-seat
theatre with no fly tower.
